The low crystallinity of MPlc CaHA leads to its rapid degradation. We observed a degradation period of 3–6 months in animal models, accompanied by a distinct post-implantation response: inflammatory stimulation followed by collagenogenesis. In the right panel above (1 μm scale), the "agglomeration" rather than "aggregation" of CaHA crystals is clearly visible. The former involves weaker binding forces, making the crystals easier to disperse and thereby creating more intra-particle/inter-particle pores.
Due to its fast degradation rate, when using MPlc CaHA microspheres for aesthetic soft-tissue augmentation, careful consideration must be given to whether the clinical evaluation endpoints can be fulfilled.

SMP CaHA maintain an in vivo persistence exceeding 12 months, making them highly suitable for developing medium- to long-term facial implants. As shown in the right panel above, the crystals have begun to undergo aggregation, forming distinct necking between particles (sintering necks). This results in a "coral-like" micro-porous surface architecture. Notably, microspheres with an excessively high specific surface area are prone to agglomeration driven by zeta potential.

GS CaHA features a high crystallinity exceeding 95%, approaching full-crystallization. Solid and porous microspheres yield completely different outcomes post-implantation, and variations in surface roughness or smoothness also introduce marked performance differences (Click for more: 【英译】Hydroxyapatite | Solid or Porous?). The crystals are fully aggregated with no detectable porosity.
Similar to commercially available dense solid spheres, GS CaHA microspheres exhibit a non-porous surface structure where CaHA crystals are fully aggregated post-fusion, giving rise to a characteristic "turtle-shell" (tortoise-shell) texture (the formation process is shown above). With a tapped density exceeding 1.8 g/mL, they represent a classic ceramicized microsphere. Utilizing an innovative sintering process, we have successfully maintained the smooth, spherical morphology of the CaHA microspheres, achieving superior flowability.
GS CaHA demonstrates an in vivo persistence exceeding 18 months (with certain studies suggesting 24–36 months or more). Post-implantation, they exhibit exceptional biological inertness and minimal immunogenicity, with virtually no observable inflammation in animal models. Nevertheless, collagenogenesis is still induced, suggesting that the collagen regeneration mechanism for such solid spheres leans toward mechanical stimulation rather than inflammatory response. This makes them exceptionally suitable for developing semi-permanent implants.
GS CaHA gradually degrades under the influence of body fluids, continuously releasing calcium and phosphate ions. Owing to their high density/mass, R&D teams must meticulously select an appropriate gel carrier to prevent microsphere sedimentation and premature aggregation.

Chromatography-Grade Hydroxyapatite (BG-CHT), manufactured by BETAGENE, is a versatile mixed-mode chromatography resin with substantial research and industrial applications in bioseparation. Combining both ion exchange and metal affinity mechanisms, BG-CHT delivers unique separation capabilities unmatched by conventional resins. Built upon proprietary processing technologies, BG-CHT consists of ultrapure, hexagonal-cross-section crystals measuring 10nm x 100nm. These individual crystals agglomerate into particles and are subsequently sintered, forming stable interconnecting necks at crystal contact points. Particle size and porosity are tightly controlled to ensure easy packing and exceptional separation performance.
This mixed-mode purification mechanism offers distinct selectivity, enabling the resolution of closely related or difficult-to-separate biomolecules that cannot be resolved using other media. BG-CHT is widely applicable for removing host cell proteins (HCP), leached Protein A, antibody dimers and aggregates, nucleic acids, and viruses across various purification stages—including capture, intermediate purification, and polishing.
BG-CHT is available in three particle size specifications: 20 μm, 40 μm, and 60 μm, and three distinct types based on protein binding capacity: Type I, Type II, and Type III.
BG-CHT Type I features higher protein dynamic binding capacity, with exceptionally high capacity for acidic proteins.
BG-CHT Type II offers a relatively lower binding capacity than Type I, but delivers superior resolution for nucleic acids and specific proteins. Additionally, Type II exhibits a low affinity for albumin, making it ideal for the purification of various immunoglobulins and their subclasses.
BG-CHT Type III is specially engineered for high-efficiency HCP binding and clearance.
